We’re heading out on a super low tide (0.3m) to look at coral and other marine life exposed by the low tide. This is a great chance to see different types of coral close up, as well as sea cucumbers, feather stars, sea urchins and crabs. If we’re lucky we may glimpse a turtle or ray! This walk is recommended for ages 7 and up because of the tricky terrain.
We’ll meet at Shoal Point park at 2.30pm and start walking toward Green Island at 2.45pm. The low tide peaks at 4.15pm, so we’ll start heading back around then and be back by 5pm.
You’ll need good reef shoes or other closed shoes that are able to get wet as the walk is over very sharp rock and coral and includes some wading through knee deep water.
Bring along a nature journal if you’d like to record some of the fantastic sea life you see in the park afterwards. Feel free to pack a picnic dinner and have dinner in the park as the sun sets.
Bring:
Water
Reef shoes
Bug spray
Sunscreen
Nature journal
