Come and join us exploring nature together! We will be exploring the rainforest at Finch Hatton and learning about Strangler Figs.
We will meet at the Finch Hatton picnic area and go on a walk observing all the beautiful Strangler Figs on the way. We will only walk as far as the first few figs and then head back to the car park to head to a flatter spot for swims and picnic.
We will have a short talk about Strangler Figs when we meet.
We'll then go for a walk and then swim and then we will be doing some nature journaling together - where we draw or write about what we saw. We encourage parents to get a nature journal as well and learn alongside your children.
Afterwards, we enjoy snacks together and have time to play. Stay for as long as you like, or head off.
The swimming spot is easy to drive and walk too and perfect for all ages with a nice flat “beach” near the water. We will give directions to the swimming hole at the first location, but it is just where the road turns dirt on the way the the main walking tracks behind the bus stop that is on the road.
What to bring:
Sunhat, sunscreen
Bottle of water
Snacks
Nature journal (A5 blank page book)
Pencil
Optional:
Watercolour pencils or paint
Small paintbrush
Please take a look through our community values and chat with your children about these before the walk.
Parents are responsible for the safety of their own children, and need to be present with their children during this activity.
Nature walks are usually held on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month, except during school holidays. They follow a pattern of a short presentation, walk to observe nature, journaling, and then snacks and free play. This is part of our series this year on trees.
