Come and join us exploring nature together! As part of our series about insects, we are going to learn about European honeybees.

My husband is a hobby beekeeper, and he is going to introduce us to bees. We'll gather in the garden, watch the bees come to our pond and drink water, and learn about how hives work and the different roles of bees.

He will demonstrate some of his beekeeping equipment, and then bring a frame from the hives for the children to see - we should be able to see cells with larvae and cells with honey. There will be an opportunity to taste the honey.

Please note that the children will not have access to the hives as these are on our roof, so we should have no danger of anyone getting stung. If you do have a child who is allergic, please bring your epi-pen along and just let us know.

If you would like to purchase honey from us, please bring along a glass jar and gold coin:)

We will be doing some nature journaling together - where we draw or write about what we saw. We encourage parents to get a nature journal as well and learn alongside your children.

Afterwards those who want to can head to the Bluewater lagoon for a swim and lunch.

Parents are responsible for the safety of their own children, and need to be present with their children during this activity.

Nature walks are usually held on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month, except during school holidays. They follow a pattern of a short presentation, walk to observe nature, journaling, and then meal and free play.
