Short walk in Sarina to see the interesting Leichardt tree with its puff ball flowers

  • Come and join us exploring nature together! As part of our series of walks about Australian trees, we're going to be discovering Leichardt trees with their funny puff-ball flowers. They should be in flower in November. Leichardt trees have a special connection to Mackay - one of these trees in our town is heritage listed, and we'll hear the story behind it.

We will meet at the parking space at Apex Park in Sarina. The walk is a short 100m walk along Plane Creek where there are plenty of native trees.

We will be doing some nature journaling together - where we draw or write about what we saw. We encourage parents to get a nature journal as well and learn alongside your children.

Afterwards, we enjoy lunch together and have time to play.

    What to bring:

    Sunhat, sunscreen

    Bottle of water

    Lunch/Snacks

Nature journal (A5 blank page book)

    Pencil

    Optional:

    Watercolour pencils or paint

    Small paintbrush

Please take a look through our community values and chat with your children about these before the walk.

Parents are responsible for the safety of their own children, and need to be present with their children during this activity.

Nature walks are usually held on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month, except during school holidays. They follow a pattern of a short presentation, walk to observe nature, journaling, and then meal and free play.
