Come and join us exploring nature together! Our final walk in our series on Australian trees for those keen beans who are still in Mackay!
We will meet in the carpark at the Information centre at Broken river, and head off on the short 1.6km circular Granite Bend walk, learning about the immense rainforest trees here, particularly the Mackay Tulip Oak. Bring your binoculars, as it's a looooong way to the top of the tree where the leaves, flowers and seeds are.
We will be doing some nature journaling together - where we draw or write about what we saw. We encourage parents to get a nature journal as well and learn alongside your children.
Afterwards, we enjoy lunch together and have time to play.
What to bring:
Sunhat, sunscreen
Bottle of water
Lunch/Snacks
Nature journal (A5 blank page book)
Pencil
Optional:
Binoculars
Watercolour pencils or paint
Small paintbrush
Please take a look through our community values and chat with your children about these before the walk.
Parents are responsible for the safety of their own children, and need to be present with their children during this activity.
Nature walks are usually held on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month, except during school holidays. They follow a pattern of a short presentation, walk to observe nature, journaling, and then meal and free play.
